3 Wildlife

Your neighbors have feathers, fins and a few scales.

Everglades National Park lies to the east and south, and the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge to the north and west. Chokoloskee sits between them.

Getting out there

Guided trips and self-guided days.

We don't run tours ourselves. Our front desk knows the local guides and will set you up with the right trip.

4 Quiet hours

Mornings here are very quiet.

Coffee on the screened patio, mist on Chokoloskee Bay, a mullet jumping somewhere you didn't look. Evenings end with a sunset over the water. Nobody is in a hurry.

7 History

A refreshed fishing camp on an ancient island.

Parkway sits at the end of Highway 29 on Chokoloskee, a shell island built by the Calusa, between Everglades National Park and the Ten Thousand Islands.

  1. Calusa

    The island

Chokoloskee is an ancient Calusa barrier island in one of the least spoiled coastal estuaries in Florida.

  2. 1906

    Smallwood's store

Ted Smallwood became the island's postmaster and trader. His 1917 store still stands on pilings at the south end of the island.

  3. 1910

    Mister Watson

Days after a hurricane, a group of island men met Edgar Watson at the Smallwood landing. The legend never left.

  4. 1956

    Gone fishin'

The causeway reached the island, and Parkway Village opened as Chokoloskee's first fishing camp.

  5. 2020

    Coming home

During the 2020 shutdown, island native Aaron Tabor brought David Ardelean down to fish, boat and breathe.

  6. Today

    Native family

Aaron and David run Parkway together and gave the old camp a refresh: new furniture, new art, same quiet.

Good to know

Questions we hear at the front desk.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, we love pups. Parkway is home to No Fuss Gus, our resident dog. Let the office know when you book and we'll put you in a dog-friendly unit. Please clean up after your fur babies.

Are kids welcome?

Well-behaved children are always welcome. There's plenty to explore on the island, including a playground at the Chokoloskee Church of God. Parkway is a historic fishing camp, so you'll meet colorful characters from all walks of life.

Is there laundry?

Yes. The bathhouse in the lower level of the Recreation Center has coin laundry. The Parkway Store across the street has quarters, detergent and dryer sheets.

Can I bring my boat?

Yes. Your boat slip comes with your stay, and there are dock lines on the docks. There's trailer parking, fuel at the dock, live bait every day and a historic boat lift. Slips go fast in winter, so tell us about your boat when you book.

Do you offer tours or boat rentals?

Not directly. The island partners above are people we send our own guests to, and the front desk will set you up with any of them.

Can you host a group or an event?

Absolutely. We have several places to stay for your guests. Parkway Village is also home to some full-time neighbors, so we ask groups to keep it friendly.

What's the cancellation policy?

We take a 50% deposit at booking. Cancel 14 or more days before check-in for a full refund, or at least 7 days before for 50% back. Within 7 days there's no refund, though a credit voucher may be issued in extenuating circumstances. Hurricane and weather evacuations are always fully refunded.
